Yeddyurappa slapped his wife Mythradevi to death, and someone is again trying to hush it all up, lawyer who raked up a 2004 case tells MiD DAY
Lawyer S Seshadri, who caused the case relating to the death of chief minister Yeddyurappa's wife to be reopened, believes someone is out to stifle him.
"I have been receiving threatening phone calls," he told MiD DAY at a secret location on the outskirts of Bangalore. "But I won't let go so easily." In a five-page petition filed on January 31, he has raised many questions about the UDR (unnatural death report) prepared by the police on October 16, 2004. Seshadri has also worked as a freelance journalist. He told a Shimoga court last week that Yeddyurappa's friendship with a party colleague triggered a row between him and his wife Mythradevi.
Sharp queries
>>Seshadri questions the police report that says Mythradevi, who was 5 ft 5 inches, drowned in a sump with only 4.5 feet of water.
>>He has challenged other such "contradictions", and "inconsistencies" in statements by witnesses.
>>The Shimoga court has sought an inquiry report by March 31, Seshadri told MiD DAY.
Travel allowance?
On the day his wife died, Yeddyurappa claimed travel allowance from Shikaripura to Shimoga, telling the government that he had to attend public meetings. He has claimed Rs 10 a km, according to Seshadri.
'Yeddy was rattled'
On October 15, around 11 pm, Yeddyurappa, and his girlfriend reportedly came to his Shimoga home.
"When he said he wanted to marry his girlfriend, Mythradevi took strong objection," said Seshadri.
Deeply annoyed, Yeddyurappa slapped her, which may have caused her death, Seshadri has submitted to the court.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
The petition says Yeddyurappa was "rattled by the development" and left Shimoga with his girlfriend.
Why Seshadri suspects police story
>>Photography and Videography not done when body was found.
>>Statement of Dr Prakash (who declared Mythradevi dead) not taken.
>>She was cremated, while Veerashaivas bury the dead. Yeddyurappa is a Veerashaiva.
>>The whole procedure of finding the body, writing a report, conducting a post-mortem, and the questioning was done in just 50 minutes.
>>It requires a minimum of three days for a body to float in winter, but Mythradevi's body was floating even before 24 hours were up.
