Drink-driving's never safe; in year of Metro work, don't even think of it

Every New Year's Eve, the traffic police try hard to bring down the accident rate. They illuminate M G Road, Brigade Road and other important roads.

However, traffic expert Prof M N Sreehari said it is very likely there will be more accidents this year for a simple reason -- Metro and other developmental projects have ruined city roads.

"Most roads are narrow and Metro work is in progress on many. This has caused bottlenecks at many places; several roads are in very bad shape," said Sreehari. "Five to six deaths take place every New Year's Eve. As many people would be drunk on New Year's Eve again, it will be more dangerous this year, what with the state of the roads."
