Matrimonial discord costs Shruthi
Matrimonial discord has cost Kannada film actress Shruthi an official post with the BJP government divesting her of Chairpersonship of the Women and Child Development Corporation.
Shruthi, a popular heroine of yesteryears and a BJP activist, has been removed from the post with immediate effect, a notification issued here last night said. The actress had filed an application before a family court here about three months ago, seeking annulment of her marriage to Kannada film director and producer S Mahender.
Shruthi was appointed to the post just before the Lok Sabha polls, but electoral authorities prevented her from assuming charge, citing model code of conduct. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was under pressure from the BJP leadership to cancel her appointment, as they felt her continuance in the post might embarrass the party in the light of her decision to seek divorce. Mahender unsuccessfully contested the 2008 assembly election from Kollegal reserved constituency.
Shruthi was given the post as a reward for her active campaign for BJP across the state during the elections. Yeddyurappa also chose to crack the whip on independent MLA Varthur Prakash for his "rebellious attitude" by removing him from the chairmanship of the Karnataka State Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
