"The reason behind starting this movement is to ensure that there's no death while climbing the dangerous vertical slopes as several mountaineers usually don't carry the required safety equipments," said Satish Ingle,u00a0u00a0 president of Vedh Sahyadricha.
"Usually techies and call centre employees undertake this adventurous sport during the weekends and several of them have expressed their desire to volunteer for this righteous cause," said Ingle.
With the help of such volunteers, the group has installed 38 bolts on Dak Bahiri and Kalakrai hill in Mayal district.
"Both the places are known for fatal accidents but now, the path has been cleared foru00a0 mountaineers," said Ingle.
He, however, added that making safety bolts and fixing it on rock was quite a complex task.
Towering task
Under the leadership of Krishna Dhokle, over 50 youths from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad conducted an in-depth survey of the area. Also, it's probably one of the major private initiatives of setting bolts on the dangerous slopes of Sahyadri hills.
"These bolts with V2A type steel are 8 mm diameter and have a life of about five decades. They can bear a lot of weight," said Ingle.
He added that replacing the old and rusted bolts on the hill-tracks is their priority.
