The gang of teenage robbers, which mostly operated in south Delhi and set burgled houses on fire to destroy evidence, had been giving sleepless nights to Delhi police. But their addiction to alcohol finally landed them in the police net.






Cops said they mostly remained under the influence of ink fluid and later used the same fluid to set burgled houses on fire as a part of their peculiar modus operandi.u00a0u00a0

After the residents approached the Chief Minister regarding a spate of burglaries in the past few months, a team of police personnel from various police stations was formed to put a check on the crime.u00a0

"The members of the gang were addicted ink fluid and they used the same fluid to set the house on fire. They considered putting the house on fire a good omen for them and also in this process the evidences of crime could be destroyed. We got key leads from the places they frequently visited to buy liquor," said HGS Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

The Lodhi Colony police station received specific inputs that Sanjay and his accomplice, who had recently escaped from the custody of Children Home, will be assembling at Tanga stand in Lodhi colony in the wee hours of Tuesday to commit another burglary.u00a0

Four stolen mobile phones, jewellery worth Rs 50,000, knife, and some house-breaking equipment have been recovered from their possession.u00a0

During the interrogations Sanjay revealed that he committed several incidents of burglaries and thefts in Laxmi Bai Nagar, Kotla, Sarojini Nagar, R.K. Puram along with other juveniles in conflict with law putting up in Pilanji area.

He also disclosed that they used to dispose off stolen articles in Bihar through one of their accomplice staying in Badarpur.

Past Record

Sanjay and his leader had earlier been arrested from Sarojini Nagar after they burgled the house of a police officer and put his uniform and other articles on fire.u00a0

The juvenile leader was sent to Children Home, but he managed to escape with 34 other juveniles. A case of escape from Remand Home was also registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station on May 15 this year. He had escaped from the Remand Home a couple of timesu00a0 in last seven years.

He had been involved in several cases of thefts and burglaries in Sarojini Nagar and near by areas.
