Tell us more about the name "Daddy's Windsong".
Malhotra: I am actually called "Daddy" by my friends and it is a title I acquired due to the long sermons I used to deliver after drinking too much. The "windsong" is because the music is played only in open-air restaurants. I started this concept in Il Terrazzo, Mumbai, and it caught on. Now, Pune is the second place where I am starting this. Anyone can come, sip their favourite cocktail and enjoy the music.u00a0
What kind of music can we expect to hear?
Malhotra: Daddy's Windsong is all about originals and not covers. You are sure not to get rock numbers. We basically concentrate on lyric-heavy, soulful gigs. You can listen to genres like Soul, Western folk, Blues and Jazz.
Tell us something about the format of the evening.
Malhotra: We bring you an amazing evening of wine, food and music. The format was a huge hit with the Mumbaikars as well. It includes an opening band, which announces the opening of the night with one or two songs. Then comes the main act, which will probably be a band from Mumbai and then the third act has a live band playing numbers and will be a prequel to next week's act.
Which are the bands that you are concentrating on?
Malhotra: I am totally into national and local bands as there is so much talent in the country itself. International bands are out of the question right now. This week, Anushka Manchanda will present her original numbers and we are planning to bring down Mansi Scott and Shibani Kashyap too. Besides, there will be shuffling between the Mumbai and Pune bands. Pune-based band Agni performed at Mumbai last week. The only criterion is that the music should set the mood with some unforgettable compositions.
Do you sing yourself?
Malhotra: I am an out-and-out music fan. It feels good that such a concept is being well-received by the crowd. As far as I am concerned, my part is restricted to just playing the host for the evening.
