In an attempt to bring about more transparency in the lottery process, officials have submitted a proposal making it mandatory for all applicants to have an Aadhar card
Planning to buy a MHADA house in the future? Then make sure you have an Aadhar card because if all goes according to plan, then the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority will make it mandatory for all applicants to have an Aadhar card.

The MHADA officials believe that making the Aadhar card a compulsory requirement for applying to the lottery will bring transparency to the process. A three-member committee that has been set up to ensure transparency in the lottery said that they had sent a proposal to the Mumbai board of MHADA.
Confirming the same, a MHADA official said, “We have already received the proposal forwarded by the oversight committee member and a decision regarding the same will be taken soon.”
The move comes after it was observed that there were many fake applications in last year’s lottery.
“Last year, we had numerous fake applicants and by making it mandatory to have an Aadhar card, we are hoping it will reduce the number of fake applicants,” said another MHADA official.
On February 22, Kherwadi police officials registered an FIR against 17 property agents and 324 applicants for allegedly trying to cheat the housing board of 425 apartments in 2011 by providing fake documents.
The entire scam was unearthed when an anonymous letter had reported that several applicants had provided similar addresses, similar cell phone numbers and the same saving account number.
Following the letter, an internal inquiry was set up and 425 applicants were found to have the same address, telephone and bank numbers. u00a0
