A retired police personnel posted in Crime Branch allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district, a police official said on Monday, ANI reported.

According to ANI report, the accused has been identified as Nathuram Dubey and he recently retired from the post of sub-inspector posted at Indore crime branch.

The accused committed the crime when the family members of the minor were not at home on Saturday (June 17). A case has been registered at Vijay Nagar police station in the matter in the city.

"The accused is the landlord of the victim and he violated the 11-year-old girl when her family members were not at home. A case was registered into the matter under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376 and Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act," Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sonakshi Saxena said.

The police started a search operation to nab the accused, the officer added.

In a separate case, earlier in March 2023, a police official was suspended for dereliction of duty while registering a case of alleged molestation of some girls in a school in Madhya Pradesh's Dindori district, an official had said. A priest, a nun, the principal and a guest teacher of the school in Junwani, some 60 kilometres from the district headquarters, were booked on March 4 on the complaint of a few girl students that they were beaten up and molested. The principal was then arrested, officials had said earlier. The school is run by the Jabalpur Diocesan Education Society (JDES) of the Roman Catholic community. Priyank Kanoongo, chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), met the students and officials on Tuesday.

In April 2023, a 19-year-old man, accused of kidnapping and raping a minor girl, was stripped and paraded with a garland of shoes by a group of people in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city, a police official had said. A video of the two-day-old incident that took place in the Bhuri Tekri area of the city has surfaced on social media. Talking to PTI, Jagdish Prasad Jamre, in-charge of the Kanadiya police station, confirmed the authenticity of the video.
