Gurcharan Padda, a Scotland-based millionaire businessman of India origin, has died in an accident after his supercar smashed into a tree and burst into flames at Whitburn, West Lothian.

Padda, 25, was driving his black Lamborghini Gallardo supercar when it careened out of control in Whitburn town of West Lothian, Scotland.

Padda had picked up a 29-year-old woman at the Edinburgh Airport on Wednesday night. The unnamed woman was seriously injured in the crash, reports from Glasgow said.

Padda's uncle, Jasbal Singh Khaira, said, "My son spoke to Gurcharan hours before the crash and Gurcharan said he was going for dinner in Edinburgh. We are all still in shock. Gurcharan was always on the go and had many friends. He loved life and doted on his family.

"One of the last memories we have of him is celebrating his 25th birthday in August with his nephew Ajay. We broke the news to his grandparents, who are flying over from India."

Padda is reported to have inherited a fortune from his father Balvinder (Billy), 50, a businessman who died of a heart attack last year. Billy Padda owned the Indian Cottage restaurant in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, and ran a nearby McDonald's.

He also had several other restaurant interests in the area before building up a portfolio of residential and industrial properties in and around Glasgow. Gurcharan was a director in two property-related firms and owned a number of luxury cars.
