Former President Rodrigo Duterte could be facing up to 30 years in prison, or even life behind bars, if convicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity related to his controversial war on drugs, according to a statement from Malacañang. But, as Palace Press Officer Claire Castro explained, this will depend on the defenses Duterte can present in his case. The ICC, which does not impose the death penalty, can sentence individuals to up to 30 years in prison, and in exceptional cases, to life imprisonment.
