A tragic accident occurred in Maharashtra's Mira Bhayandar (East) on Wednesday, 27th November evening when a woman in her late 60s was killed by a crane. The incident took place near Family Care Hospital in the Indralok area around 5:30 pm. The woman, whose identity was not immediately confirmed as her son was yet to arrive from Mumbai, was a retired clerk from the BMC. She lived in the same area and was out for her regular evening walk when the accident happened. The crane, which was reportedly speeding and being driven recklessly, lost control while turning and struck her. She died instantly. The incident was caught on nearby CCTV cameras. Local officials from Navghar police arrived at the spot and rushed the blood-stained body to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead before admission. The body was sent for autopsy, and the police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
28 November,2024 11:52 AM ISTIn recent court proceedings, the 9th Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Thane granted interim custody of six horses to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India following their use in illegal racing on a highway. PETA India filed an application seeking interim custody of the six horses on 8 October after the Kashigaon police station registered an FIR and seized the horses under Sections 291, 281, 125, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Sections 11(1)(a) and 11(1)(l) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960. The court, acting in accordance with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Care and Maintenance of Case Property Animals) Rules, 2017, notified under the PCA Act, 1960, was pleased to allow PETA India’s application seeking interim custody of the horses and rejected the application for custody of the horses filed by the accused owners in the matter.
11 November,2024 12:26 PM ISTAfter a clash was reported from Mumbai's Mira Road, bulldozers razed illegal structures and encroachments in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road on Tuesday. "Illegal structures and encroachments were razed by bulldozers in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road where Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha celebrations were stone pelted. After instructions from the Maharashtra government, action is being taken by the Municipal Corporation with the help of the police," the Maharashtra government said. Meanwhile, three persons were arrested in Mumbai and an FIR was filed against unknown individuals after at least four cases of outraging religious sentiments were filed in the city following the Mira Road Violence.

A day after the clash, bulldozers razed illegal structures, encroachments in Naya Nagar area of Mira Road. Soon after the Mira Road Violence incident, heavy police force was deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation. Locals in Mira Road reacted after the violent incident and they lauded police action for stabilizing the situation. Police issued a fresh advisory on Jan 24 asking all groups not to forward any messages related to clashes on social media. The violent incident was reported on Jan 22, the same day when the Ram Mandir ‘Pran Pratishtha’ was performed.

BJP MLA from Mira Bhayander Constituency, explained the sequence of events that led to the violence. Following the Mira Road Violence, wherein two groups clashed, next to Mumbai, significant security measures have been enforced in the region. Police have detained a man seen agitating people in a viral video on social media. According to the report, in response to Mira Road clash, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed the arrest of thirteen individuals, with ongoing efforts to identify other suspects.

31 July,2023 11:55 AM ISTA 56-year-old man has been arrested by the Naya Nagar police for murdering his 32-year-old live in partner at Mira Road. According to the police, the woman was murdered two to three days ago. The occupants of the building got a foul smell emanating from one of the flats and alerted the cops. The police said that they found the woman’s body cut into pieces. The deceased has been identified as Saraswati Vaidya, while her-live in partner is Manoj Sane.
