Hopefully, we can have a very successful 2024 on the back of it

Being named player of the T20I series on Tuesday night came as a surprise for victorious Australia captain Alyssa Healy. While she scored 55 in the third and deciding T20I against India to star in her team’s seven-wicket win, her scores in the previous two matches as opener were eight and 26.

By her own admission, Healy said with a smile on Tuesday night: “I don’t think I was overtly deserving the player of the series, but I will accept it gracefully. I thought our bowlers bounced back beautifully in the last two matches. I am proud of this group. This is the first time we are away from home this time of the year. We enjoyed being in India, playing good hard cricket. We played two-and-a-half days of bad cricket in the month we have been here—one-and-a-half days of the Test match and one day of T20. Hopefully, we can have a very successful 2024 on the back of it.”

While India are unsure of what their next international fixture is, Australia will take on South Africa at home in a multi-format series from January 27, starting with three T20Is, followed by three ODIs and concluding with the one-off Test in Perth from February 15.

Healy wondered if the calendar would provide for more women’s matches in the future. “We always love more cricket. The calendar does get tight with the WBBL, The Hundred and the Women’s Premier League. It is exciting. We want to see more international cricket being played. It is a great opportunity to come to India and experience these conditions and travel around the world because the World Cup is played around the world. We do always love more cricket, but how it fits in the calendar might be the first question,” said Healy.
