Former India and Mumbai pace bowler Karsan Ghavri has expressed disappointment over the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) not contributing to the felicitation purse of members of the 1970-71 Ranji Trophy-winning team.

Captain Sudhir Naik’s teammates were presented cheques of Rs 50,000 each while Naik received Rs 75,000 from Ageas Federal Life Insurance, who organised a felicitation function at Bandra Kurla Complex on Friday. The Mumbai Cricket Association Recreation Centre was shown as a venue partner.

"It's so unfortunate that MCA is not contributing anything," exclaimed Ghavri, who, along with former Mumbai and India captain Dilip Vengsarkar, was chief guest at the function. Ghavri reckoned that the amounts presented to the players would have been greater had former MCA president Sharad Pawar was involved in the felicitation in which the association should have got associated with. Vengsarkar said that no praise can be too high for the sponsors who came forward to honour a Ranji Trophy team.
