Exatcly a week after Gundecha Education Academy's Suryansh Shedge scored a triple century (326) against SPSS Mumbadevi Niketan (Borivli), the Mumbai Schools Sports Association-organised Giles Shield Under-14 (Plate Group) cricket tournament witnessed another 300-plus individual show.

This time it was Rizvi Springfield's (Bandra) Shubham Mestry (304), who helped his team beat Jesuben High School (Khar) by 460 runs at Dadkar Maidan in Matunga. Batting first on the Dadar Parsee Zoroastrian CC pitch, the Bandra outfit scored a mammoth 517-6 in the allotted 45 overs.

Batting out of position
Shubham, his school's regular opener, came in at No. 3 yesterday when the first Rizvi wicket fell at 30-1. Right-handed batsman Shubham's 304 came off 135 (52x4, 3x6) and he put on 100 runs with Abhinav Singh (56) for the third wicket.

"I read about Suryansh's triple century and asked myself that if he could do it, why can't I, so I went into this match with a big innings on my mind. But I didn't think about Suryansh's feat while batting," Shubham told mid-day.

Scoring a triple century in a 45-over game is astounding. Either the batsman is too good, or the opposition bowlers were dishing out some loose stuff. When asked to describe the opposition bowling, Shubham remarked: "Majority of the deliveries were short-pitched. There were a lot of full tosses too and I managed to dispatch them to the fence."

Total domination
Shubham was in total command at the crease, but a run out sent him back to the pavilion. "I drove one nicely and started running, but the bowler fielded the ball in his follow through and ran out me with a direct hit," Shubham rued.

Prince Singh (45), Prajwal Rai (33) were the other scorers for Rizvi. Jesuben HS were also poor when they batted. Rizvi's pace bowlers Moin Khan and Samad Shaikh claimed three wickets each to bundle out the Khar side for a mere 57 in 21 overs.
