Indi Pop Hits: Aasma, or ‘The Youths Melody Makers', was one of the biggest bands in Indian pop history. Here's all you need to know about them

Aasma

Aasma, or ‘The Youths Melody Makers', was one of the biggest bands in Indian pop history. Their fame almost rivaled that of ‘Band of Boys’ and even 'Viva'. Their claim to fame was ‘Chandu Ke Chacha', which bowled over thousands of people, making sure it was a song that got stuck in your head whether you liked it or not.

The band met an unfortunate fate when they disbanded soon after their rise to fame. Aasma released two albums in their career span. After their unfortunate fallout, band members stuck to their own individual music and careers. It seems they all fared rather well for themselves.

The band is comprised of Neeti Mohan, Jimmy Felix, Sangeet Haldipur, Peyush Dixit, Aamir Ali, and Vasudha Sharma. While not much is in light about Peyush and Aamir. Jimmy, Neeti, Sangeet, and Vasudha are often asked about

For Jimmy Felix, music was always his life. Over the years, he has struggled to create his own space in the competitive world of the music industry. He has been a singer-songwriter and has been performing live shows in Mumbai. He often travels across the country for his performances, which include a whole deal of background dancers and what some would call ‘Maaseledaar’ entertainment.

Neeti Mohan took to playback singing and has actively sung for many popular Bollywood films, like Gunday. Bang Bang! Happy New Year! She also featured in television shows like MTV Unplugged and Comedy Nights with Kapil. It’s safe to say that this Aasma woman is a cherished talent in Bollywood.

Sangeet is presently a music composer and a singer. With his brother Siddharth Haldipur, a fellow Indi-pop legend from ‘A Band of Boys’. The two of them created several songs for television shows, Bollywood, and Marathi movies.

Once the band went their separate ways, Vasudha went abroad to pursue her studies in music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. She has stuck to her Indi niche and found her sound in the music world. Besides her solo gigs, Vasudha has also worked on a fusion album called ‘Attuned Spirits.

The band members got together for a video with Mid-day.com in 2020 to talk about lockdown and how they have been spending their time.

While the members are all succeeding in their own right, it’s only natural that we ask and wonder, ‘Will they ever get back together?’
