The film fraternity jolted after the Matthew Perry death news broke. Popularly known for playing the role of Chandler Bing in the iconic television series, Friends, the actor allegedly drowned in the jacuzzi at a Los Angeles-area home on Saturday (in the US).

According to a report in TMZ, the Friends actor returned home after a 2-hour session of pickleball and sent his assistant out on an errand. However, when the assistant returned after reportedly 2 hours, he discovered Matthew unresponsive and raised an alarm by calling 911.

As per the TMZ report, law enforcement sources informed the publication that Matthew was found Saturday at a Los Angeles area home where he appeared to have drowned. The report further stated that first responders rushed over on a call for cardiac arrest. Further details on the reason behind the untimely demise are yet to be disclosed.

Matthew, born in 1969, moved to LA in his teenage. After doing a couple of shows, Friends came as his big break in 1994. In the book Friends … ‘Til the End, Matthew said, "I was 24 when I got on the show. I’ll be 34 when it’s over, and those are really important years in somebody’s life. So to do it all in public … was difficult. At first you have the wave of ‘I’m famous, and this is exactly what I’ve wanted my whole life.’ But then you go through the whole recluse stage where you think, ‘I wish everybody would stop staring at me.’ And then you eventually, hopefully, get through all that. You find things in your life that are grounding, like your family and good friends."

Amid the success and popularity, Matthew suffered addiction to drugs and alcohol. He was reportedly on Vicodin for years. While he was working on Friends, Matthew had been in and out of rehab.

In his memoir, titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, Matthew spoke out in detail about his substance abuse issues and revealed that his struggles left him needing 12 surgeries and saw him enter rehab 15 different times, which cost him around $9 million.
