Now at a new address on trendy Peddar Road, designer Aarti Kalro's leaning towards embroidery finds its way into the range at her store, Ai.ko, that caters to women from all walks of life and every body type
Designer Aarti Kalro wanted to put her knowledge of embroidery to use and hence started her own label Ai.ko, which means lovechild in Japanese. She has now found a space in Peddar Road (she set up her first shop at Kemps Corner) that is bound to grab more eyeballs for the store, owing to its prime location.

Despite its compact interiors, the store makes its presence felt sandwiched between spacious stores and high-rises, and takes forward Kalro’s dream to make available stylish yet comfortable clothes for women of all age groups.
“My cuts are very simple, since I don’t like to do very elaborate stuff. I don’t want that only a certain body type wear my designs. I want everyone to feel comfortable,” says the 34-year-old Mumbai-based entrepreneur.
Ai.ko houses apparel, which portray a blend of Indian and Western fashion. Indian fabrics in bold shades with a focus on embroidery are intermixed with western cuts in most of the garments.
“I’m very inspired by my travels; my experiences have enriched me. That’s something I translate in my clothes. I make clothes that are easy to wear and add some fun and colour to life, because I feel clothes really make a difference to how you feel,” explains Kalro, who also customises outfits according to the client’s requirement.
The designer aims to soon launch clothes with her signature prints that will be available only at Ai.ko.
