Every space is unique, but it is the power of interior design that makes a home look complete. In interior design, textile is said to be the most sensational and dramatic element.  Meenu Agarwal, the Founder and Director of MADS Creations, a luxury interior design company, sheds light on the significance of textiles in home interiors.

Decorating a space is not just about picking the appropriate furniture pieces and accessories. People think a lot before buying a painting or a luxury decorating item. It is more important to give thought to the selection of correct fabrics. The right textiles used in the home interior can provide a timeless look. However, reality bites. Even though fabrics bring life to a place, adding them to the home interior is always treated as an afterthought.

The key element to mull over before choosing a fabric is colour harmony. Meenu Agarwal cites, “When we think of furnishing or renovating our homes, an assortment of colour is the first thing that comes to our mind. The equilibrium of colours together in a room enhances its appearance. Therefore, choosing a tone that goes well with your charisma becomes a priority.” She further adds, “Colour is the form of non-verbal communication that can radically affect your mood and emotions. When you walk into a room, the way your eyes decipher colours can stimulate how you interpret the style, mood, and overall comfort level of the space.”

In extension to the colour, vary the texture of textiles. It is salient to think of the touch. On trust of her long-standing experience in interior designing, she says, “In sophisticated and modern homes, there’s not a lot of colours but you may notice the premium quality texture of the fabrics. It can be subtle, smooth, or have a little nub to it. A fabric on which you can feel the distinctive piece of the real filament counts for a lot.” The trick is to mix not more than three colours, textures and patterns. Agarwal also suggests that a lot of interest can be achieved by playing with the textures.

Speaking about the next important facet of textiles, pattern adds to the beauty of colour and texture. Pattern rapport is the art of mixing patterns and strips, together to create an energy in the room. The best palette of fabrics is always a combination.

Meenu Agarwal MADS Creations further introduces the term ‘kitschy’ as an out of the box fun element that is fresh and new in the trend. For example, adding a tangerine ottoman with a quirky shape in a room full of muted coloured vibe brings the aspect of kitschy.

While picking fabrics, count on all the three elements that collectively unify the room and help bring the space together. Starting with the colour harmony which demonstrates the fluidity and lightness that relates in a soothing manner, moving on to the texture that feels comfortable and then the pattern that decides the true essence and theme, a perfect design is achieved.

The mixture of correct choice of colour scheme around the fabrics, multiple patterns, and elite texture can do wonders. For instance, mix one floral, one stripe, and one geometric. It will bring the element to newness and look classy as well.

Introducing different themes, Agarwal mentions, “With cream comfortable, greeneries, luxury, organic, retro-modern, etc., we have abundant matches, permutations and combinations to play with. Apart from these set themes, sometimes innovation gives birth to a tasteful and impeccable space. No room of a house should be left unnoticed, especially the room where most of the time is spent. It is every designer’s goal to reach the expectations of their clients. It’s also their responsibility to further raise the bar of living by creating a happy place to live in,” concludes one of the best interior designers.
