Pravin Mahajan is back with his family after 42 months after being released on a 14-day furlough (see box) yesterday.
However, the Worli police were apprehensive about releasing Mahajan and had even submitted a confidential report to the jail authorities, stating he may abscond.
Senior prison officials confirmed they had received negative reports from the Worli and Thane police on releasing Mahajan, sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his elder brother BJP leader Pramod, at his Worli home, on April 22, 2006.

He added, "Mahajan has been warned and instructed to follow the six conditions for furlough, including producing a surety of Rs 25,000 and visiting the local police station every day."
A senior prison official said, "We have followed prison norms in releasing Mahajan. If he violates them, we will take stringent action against him, cancel his remission and even issue an arrest warrant."
Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 3, Dr Suhas Warke added, "If he jumps the bail, further action will be decided.'
Mahajan was lodged in the general barrack of the Nashik Central jail with 100 other convicts. According to sources, apart from cleaning the barrack, he seldom did any work and was not paid.
'I don't feel emotional'
Pravin Mahajan's son Kapil told MiD DAY, "My mom, dad and maternal uncle are sitting in a separate room at our home in Thane.
They have asked the kids not to disturb them for the next few hours."
He added that when he met his father outside Nashik Central jail yesterday, it was no different from meeting him in jail except that it lasted for more than 15 minutes.
"I don't feel emotional I don't know about my mother's feelings," said Kapil.
