Ready to begin trial in Sheena Bora murder case: CBI

The CBI officials on Friday told court that they are ready to begin the trial in the Sheena Bora murder case against Indrani Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna.

CBI Prosecutor Bharat Badami informed court that it cannot state until when the investigations in the case will be completed, as the case is wide in scope and is being probed from all angles, until it reaches its logical end. Badami also said that they have gathered enough evidence against all the accused, and are ready for trial and can also argue on the point of framing charges. The court also extended the judicial custody of Indrani, Peter and Sanjeev till September 13, to when the matter is adjourned.

Indrani’s lawyer Gunjan Mangla filed an application seeking permission for Indrani to make a call to her daughter Vidhie in London as it was her birthday on Friday. The court allowed her plea.

The court also said none of the parts of the purported tapes on the murder case were leaked from the court. CBI also said there was no leak from their side either.

Peter’s lawyer Mihir Gheewala told the court that the tapes are a vital evidence and because of the manner in which they were aired on news channels, the witnesses could be directly affected. Later, Gheewala also moved an application that the court should direct the CBI to take all necessary steps to prevent potential evidence, documents, witnesses statements and material produced by CBI in its chargesheet from being used in the media without permission of the court.
