The traffic police have decided to completely shut down the Sion bridge starting this Saturday, January 20. According to a formal notification issued by the Brihanmumbai Police Traffic Division (BPTD), the Sion bridge, slated for demolition as part of railway restructuring, will be closed for vehicular traffic from January 20, 2024.

Dr Raju Bhujbal, DCP traffic (East), when speaking to mid-day, confirmed the development, stating, “The complete bridge will be shut down from January 20 for complete demolition. The requirement from railways was that the complete bridge be shut down at once for restructuring purposes.”

When questioned about pedestrian crossing availability, DCP Bhujbal added, “The railways have informed us about facilitating pedestrian crossing, but the actual picture will be clearer only after demolition. We have requested the railway authorities to ensure that even after demolition, pedestrians would be able to cross the bridge, which will prove convenient for those wanting to cross.”
