The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMMOCL) marked a historic milestone as the overall ridership of Metro Lines 2A and 7 exceeded 100 million. MMRDA chief Sanjay Mukherjee took to social media to make an announcement regarding the same.

In his social media post, he expressed gratitude to Mumbaikars for picking the Metro as their preferred means of transportation and also congratulated the team.

He wrote, "Proud day for MMRDA, MMMOCL as the total ridership of Metro Lines 2A and 7 reaches 100 million! A million thanks to Mumbaikars for choosing Metro as the preferred mode of travel. My congratulations to the team."

The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) had announced a 10 per cent discount on ticket fares on election day and the agency said that over 1.13 lakh people availed of the discount.  A representative of MMMOCL said a total of 1,13,414 passengers rode on Metro Line 2A and Metro Line 7 till 5 pm. MMMOCL operates Metro Lines 2A between Andheri West and Dahisar East and 7 between Dahisar East to Andheri East. The discount was aimed at boosting voter turnout, the officials said.

The Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 have been built at a cost of roughly Rs 12,600 crore. These lines constitute a 35 km-long elevated corridor extending from Andheri to Dahisar in suburban Mumbai. The 18.6 km-long Metro line 2A connects suburban Dahisar (East) with the 16.5 km-long D N Nagar (yellow line), while the Metro line 7 joins Andheri (East) with Dahisar (East).
