A 75-year-old man with memory loss was recently found dead on the tracks between Khar and Bandra railway stations on the day he went missing from his home, police said. The Bandra GRP has filed an accidental death report and started a probe.

According to the police, the body of Bhagwan Kale, 74, was found on December 18, the day he left his home in Jogeshwari East after lunch. The Bandra Government Railway Police (GRP) did not find identification documents and was able to track his family five days later, based on the missing person complaint filed on December 19.

Kale lived with his family and suffered from memory loss, said cops, adding that he had gone missing twice in the past. Vanrai police had found him on both the occasions. Late on December 18, he was hit by a train and the motorman immediately alerted the GRP. The cops rushed him to Cooper hospital where he was declared dead. Police said they are checking the CCTV cameras of the railway stations to find out how he ended up on the tracks.

A GRP officer said, “We checked the missing person complaints on December 18, but didn’t find any records. Kale’s family reported him missing on December 19 at Vanrai police station. When he again checked the records, we found a match and called his family members, who identified Kale’s body.”

Sub-Inspector Rahul Devade of Vanrai police station said, “We received a missing person complaint on December 19 and started searching for him, but in vain. We also circulated his photos on the online portal of Mumbai police, but didn’t get any response. Kale had gone missing earlier, too.”
