On 31 July, the ED raided top Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s residence in Bhandup. After the raid, Raut was detained and later placed under arrest on August 1 in connection with a money-laundering case. Raut's arrest had triggered strong reactions from the opposition parties, which also alleged misuse of central probe agencies by the BJP. Sanjay Raut was granted bail by the court on November 9, almost three months after he was arrested.

Nawab Malik

Malik was arrested in connection with a money laundering case linked to wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Malik is at present lodged in a city jail.

Another senior NCP leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was jailed for over a year after he was arrested on November 1, 2021. Deshmukh was arrested by the CBI and the ED. The probe agency, ED had launched a probe against him and his associates after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR against him on April 21, 2021, on charges of corruption. Former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh had alleged that Deshmukh had fixed a collection target of Rs 100 crore per month for now-dismissed Inspector Sachin Vaze.
