The newly-formed Mahayuti government will present its first budget, with expectations of key policy announcements. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has stated that the budget is for the people and will focus on their progress and development.
In previous years, Pawar has presented budgets dedicated to historical figures and key sectors, including agriculture, industry, and healthcare. His fiscal discipline during the COVID-19 crisis was widely recognised for stabilising Maharashtra’s economy.
The 2021 budget was presented on International Women’s Day and focused on women’s welfare and empowerment. Last year’s pre-election budget was noted for its inclusivity and played a key role in the Mahayuti government’s return to power.
Ahead of presenting the budget, Pawar paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by offering a floral garland at the Legislature premises. The Maharashtra Legislature’s budget session began on 3 March with the Governor’s address to both houses.
The budget session is set to conclude on 26 March, with key discussions expected on fiscal policies and state development. Pawar’s past budgets have prioritised farmers, labourers, women, Dalits, tribals, students, and youth, and this year’s budget is anticipated to continue in the same direction.
