The accused, Murali(48) from Tumkur, was handed over to SJP Road police.

When Muraliu00a0approached Srichand Chawla, owner of Universal Electronics on SP road,u00a0to checku00a0the shop's accounts,u00a0Chawla demanded his ID-card since Murali claimed to be from the commercial tax department.

Since Murali failed to produceu00a0his ID-Card, Chawla called up the Commissioner of CTC and found out that Murali was a fraud. The officialu00a0askedu00a0Chawla to detain him till they reached the spot. Chawla caught Murali with the help of his staff. He was later handed over to the CTC squad, who in turn,u00a0gave him to the SJP policeu00a0who filed a cheating complaint against him.

Preliminary invesitgations have revealed that Murali was unemployed and had cheated many shops earlier impersonating as a CTC officer. In fact, heu00a0had taken Rs 1,500 from Chawla six months ago on the pretext of checking his shop, the police said.
