INDONESIA: Survivors and relatives of victims of the October 12, 2002 Bali bombings lay flowers at the pool of remembrance during a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of Bali attacks at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park in Jimbaran located in Indonesia's resort island of Bali. Hundreds paid tearful tributes to the 202 people killed in the Bali bombings 10 years ago, when Islamist extremists unleashed terror on partying tourists.


PAKISTAN: Civil society activists and journalists carry candles and photographs of gunshot victim and child activist Malala Yousafzai during a protest in Islamabad against the assassination attempt on her. 14-year-old Yousafzai, shot in the head by the Taliban on a school bus in the Swat valley, is undergoing treatment and still in a critical condition. The shooting has been denounced worldwide and the Pakistani authorities have offered a reward of USD 100,000 on her attackers.


SYRIA: Syrian youths walk past graffiti in the rebel-held Syrian city of Minbej. The Syrian regime rejected a UN call for a unilateral ceasefire as rebels confronted columns of tanks and troops sent to retake a town on the road to main battleground city Aleppo.


VENEZUELA: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez waves a Venezuelan flag while speaking to supporters after receiving news of his reelection in Caracas. After almost 14 years in power since 1999, Chavez was reelected with 54.42% of the votes, beating opposition candidate Henrique Capriles, who obtained 44.97%.


INDIA: Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan waves to his fans gathered outside his residence on his 70th birthday in Mumbai on October 11. Bachchan was the first Indian actor to feature at London's Madame Tussauds waxworks museum and was voted 'actor of the millennium' in a BBC online poll in 1999.


UNITED STATES: US Vice President Joe Biden (R) and Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan depart the stage following their vice presidential debate at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.
