People across India celebrated the festival of Eid with enthusiasm

Eid-ul-Fitr 2025: India celebrates the festival with joy and unity

Eid-ul-Fitr marked the end of the holy month of Ramzan, was celebrated with much joy and unity across India. The sighting of the moon led to special prayers (Namaz) being offered at mosques, Eidgahs, and open grounds, with people from different regions coming together to celebrate the occasion. In Delhi, children and families assembled at the historic Jama Masjid, one of India's largest mosques, to perform Namaz. A devotee expressed joy after prayers. He said, "I think this is needless. If All India Muslim Personal Law Board has to protest, they can do it in other ways. On the occasion of Eid, we have all come here to celebrate and not to protest or wear black bands. All this sends a wrong message...This is the biggest festival of Muslims. Today, we have prayed here that the country progresses and our brotherhood should remain intact. We have also offered prayers for PM Modi that he stays healthy and lives long..."A foreign student from GD Goenka University, who attended the Namaz at Jama Masjid for the second time,, said, ""...I have come to Jama Masjid for the second time. This is a nice place. We meet many people from different parts of the country, from our country..."Another foreign student of GD Goenka University said, "Jama Masjid is a very nice place. I met many friends and people here. We prayed here together. It is one of the biggest mosques in India."In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, the police conducted foot patrols as part of increased security measures while Namaz was being offered.Speaking to ANI, IG Praveen Kumar said, "We are conducting continuous foot patrols to maintain peace. We are in contact with everyone and vigilant, especially during Navratri and Eid celebrations."In Kalaburagi, Karnataka, people gathered at the Eidgah to offer their prayers for Eid. Similar celebrations took place in many parts of the country, including the Birbhum district in West Bengal, where people offered Eid Namaz at Siudi Idgah, followed by heartfelt greetings and hugs. Vikas Rai Choudhary, the MLA from Birbhum, extended his congratulations and wished everyone an Eid Mubarak. In Jaipur, the celebrations took on a unique touch when Hindu brothers showered flowers on the thousands of Namazis at the Idgah on Delhi Road, sending a powerful message of unity. In Jammu and Kashmir's Bhaderwah, a large procession was held as the community marched to the Eidgah, chanting religious slogans before offering Namaz.Likewise, special prayers were held in Tirunelveli and Vellore, where over 50,000 people participated in the Ramadan celebrations.International students also joined in the celebrations. A foreign student from Mozambique studying at GD Goenka University, said, "This is my first time celebrating Eid in India, and it's been amazing. It's incredible to see different communities--Muslims, Hindus, Christians--living together, sharing love and culture."(With ANI inputs)

Six killed as tree falls on vehicles near Manikaran Gurdwara in Himachal Pradesh

Six people, including four tourists, were killed and several injured after a huge tree got uprooted following a storm in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district and fell on several vehicles near Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib on Sunday, officials said. Medical teams, police and revenue officials are present at the spot and coordinating the rescue and relief operations, Kullu Sub Divisional Magistrate Vikas Shukla told reporters at the spot. Among those killed were Jammu and Kashmir resident Reena, who was working in Manikaran, Sameer, a native of Nepal working in the BRO office in Manali, and four tourists -- Varsini from Bangalore and Dhinta, Manish and Gulshan -- the students of Haryana School of Regional Marketing, said Tehsildar Hari Singh Yadav. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur have expressed deep grief over the incident. Congress MLA from Kullu Sunder Singh Thakur said six people were killed when a tree opposite the Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib fell on vehicles parked on the road. The injured have been identified as Bangalore resident Ramesh, his wife Pallavi and son Bhargav; Haryana's Prachi and Vikram Aacharya and his wife Tumpa Aacharya, they said. Aacharya, who is from Assam, said the incident occurred around 4:30 when he was waiting for a vehicle along with his family members. "We had come on Kullu-Manali trip. It was not a landslide and everything happened so quickly that we could not understand what happened," he added. The injured have been shifted to a Kullu hospital and are out of danger, the officials said. The chief minister has directed the district administration to extend all possible assistance to the victims and their families. 'PM Modi to inaugurate Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat train on April 19 from Katra'

Union Minister Jitendra Singh has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat train service on April 19 from Katra. Singh added that the train service will initially begin from Katra due to the renovation work at the Jammu railway station. Once the work is completed, around August, the train will start running from Jammu. "On April 19, the Prime Minister will arrive in Udhampur. Afterwards, he will visit the world's highest rail bridge, which has been constructed, to inspect it and inaugurate it. Then, he will reach Katra and inaugurate the Vande Bharat train. The Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat service is being started temporarily from Katra due to the renovation work at the Jammu railway station. Once the work is completed, around August, the train will start running from Jammu as per the schedule," Singh said. According to a Ministry of Railways release, the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat train is specially designed with anti freezing features. The Snow removal train, moving ahead of passenger and freight trains, will make sure that trains on this strategic route run all through the year, day and night. This will ensure all-weather connectivity between both regions. To give passengers a comfortable & safe travel experience, Railways has used Anti-Vibration seismic devices in the project as this region falls in zone-V earthquake vulnerability. These dampers will absorb the tremors in the Himalayan terrain and thus maintain faster and safer travel for commuters. "The Vande Bharat Express running in Kashmir is different from the Vande Bharat Express running across the country. It is specially designed to operate smoothly in extreme cold conditions, i.e. as low as -20degC. To ensure comfort for passengers and drivers, the train is equipped with advanced heating systems," as per the release. The driver's cabin features a heated windshield to prevent it from fogging up or freezing, ensuring clear visibility in extreme temperatures. Further, the train has heating elements in the plumbing and bio-toilets to prevent water from freezing, ensuring that essential systems continue to function during cold weather. Madhya Pradesh: Ban on non-veg food sale in Maihar town for Navratri

Authorities have banned the sale of all non-vegetarian foods in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh's Maihar town during the nine-day Navratri festival. Maihar is home to revered Maa Sharda Mandir, a Shaktipeeth for Hindus. Tens of thousands of devotees visit the town during the annual nine-day 'Maa Shardey Chaitra Navrati Fair'. The Navratri festivities commenced on Sunday. Besides, meat shops in Bhopal and Indore have been ordered to remain closed on the festivals of Chaiti Chand (March 30), Ram Navami (April 6), Mahavir Jayanti (April 10) and Buddha Purnima (May 12), civic officials said. To enforce the ban in the two cities, municipal authorities have warned that shops will even face cancellation of their licence if they flout the orders. Several BJP lawmakers, including former party whip in the Lok Sabha and MP Public Works Department minister Rakesh Singh, had demanded that meat shops in the state be ordered to remain shut during Navratri. The government has already announced that liquor shops will be closed permanently in 17 holy towns, including Maihar, across the state from April 1. AFSPA extended to Manipur, parts of Nagaland, Arunachal

The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) was on Sunday extended for six months in the entire Manipur, except the jurisdictions of 13 police stations. The AFSPA, under which a particular state or some areas are declared “disturbed”, has also been extended to eight districts in Nagaland and 21 police station areas in five other districts of the state for six months, according to a notification issued by the Union home ministry. The law for six months beginning April 1 after a review of the law and order situation in these northeastern states. The AFSPA, often criticised as a draconian law, gives armed forces operating in disturbed areas sweeping powers to search, arrest and open fire if they deem it necessary. “Whereas the central government after review of the law and order situation in the state of Manipur, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (28 of 1958) declares the entire state of Manipur, excluding the areas falling under the jurisdiction of 13 police stations of 5 districts, as ‘disturbed area’ for a period of six months with effect from 01.04.2025, unless withdrawn earlier,” the notification related to Manipur read. BJP delegation stopped from visiting clash-hit area in West Bengal

A BJP delegation, led by Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, was on Sunday stopped by the police at English Bazar, around three kilometres ahead of Mothabari in West Bengal's Malda district, where clashes were reported between two communities. As the BJP team was not allowed to visit the violence-hit area, the saffron party leaders and supporters staged a road blockade. “The people of Bengal are witnessing what is happening here. The police of the state are working as the cadre of the ruling TMC,” Majumdar, also the BJP’s West Bengal unit president, told reporters. The situation in the clash-hit Mothabari was peaceful, amid heavy deployment of police personnel, a senior police officer said. Clashes erupted a day after a religious procession passed by a place of worship in Mothabari on Wednesday evening. A total of 50 people have been arrested in connection with their involvement in the clashes. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. People’s choice between jungle raj and development, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday sounded the bugle for Bihar Assembly polls due later this year, urging the people to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by voting the BJP-led NDA back to power. Addressing a rally in Gopalganj, a stronghold of the RJD, Shah also charged the opposition party’s president Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi, both of whom had together ruled the state for 15 years, with running a “jungle raj”, alleging that murders, kidnappings and dacoities became an industry in the state while they were in power. “The people of Bihar have a choice to make between the Lalu-Rabri duo, representing the jungle raj, and development under Modi and Nitish,” said the former BJP president. The Union minister said things began to improve when the BJP, in alliance with JD(U) headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, formed a government in the state. If the NDA returns to power later this year, Bihar’s decades-old problem of annual floods will become a thing of the past, he said. “I request you all to form the NDA government for another five years, and we assure you that we will make Bihar flood-free. Floods will become a past in Bihar,” Shah said. Rs 800 cr schemes, projects Earlier in the day, Shah unveiled schemes and laid the foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 800 crore on the occasion of International Cooperative Day. He launched schemes, comprising R111 crore from the cooperative department and R421 crore from the urban development and housing department. He also laid the foundation stones for 133 police buildings, costing R181 crore, and three road transport and national highway projects worth Rs 109 crore. ‘Will never ditch BJP again’Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar assured Shah that he would “never again” ditch the BJP, having done so “twice by mistake”.  With Assembly elections barely a few months away, the JD(U) president’s averment came at a function in Patna where Shah and he unveiled several projects of the Centre and the state. A BJP ally since the mid-90s, Kumar split with the party in 2014, only to realign three years later. In 2022, he again parted ways, vowing to dislodge the BJP from power at the Centre and bring together parties from across the country to form the INDIA bloc. However, ahead of last year’s Lok Sabha polls, the Janata Dal (United) supremo was back in the NDA. In his speech, Kumar blamed his break-ups with the BJP on “some people in my own party” but asserted, “I committed the mistake twice. But it is going to be never again.”  Rs 421 CRAmount dedicated for urban development This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies.
