The Azerbaijani plane, flying from Baku to Grozny, was following its scheduled route when it attempted to land at Grozny airport. At that time, the airport was being attacked by Ukrainian drones. Russian air defense systems were responding to the attack, the Kremlin said. The crash of Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8432 near Aktau, Kazakhstan, resulted in 38 deaths. The plane, an Embraer 190, was en route from Baku to Grozny, a Russian city in the North Caucasus.
