Vaidya’s Nashik-based Samyak Green promotes urban edible gardening in small spaces like terraces and balconies. He produces high-quality organic potting mixes on his farm with scientific and slow processing of natural ingredients. Vaidya also has an ecotourism set-up on the farm, which serves as an urban farming learning centre. The one-day ecotourism programme includes sharing of knowledge and healthy food made from traditional recipes and vegetables. Vaidya studied microbiology, environmental sciences and social work. While working as a disaster management expert, he realised that ecological farming and healthy food were the need of the hour. He started ecological farming in 2009 on barren land with little available water, and the mission to rejuvenate the ecology of the farm and foster living soil by utilising biomass and cattle dung.
RECOMMENDED BY: Sanjeevani Borase, product designer, says, “We wanted to set up an organic vegetable garden at home, and Mandar Vaidya at Samyak Green helped us bring that to fruition. We now enjoy homegrown vegetables every week. His depth of knowledge and ready support over the phone made the whole process informative and interesting.”
