A small aircraft crashed in the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport late Wednesday evening. Fire boats reached quickly on the scene as emergency responders worked to assist with the recovery efforts. The Washington, D.C. Fire Department confirmed the incident, and the Metropolitan Police Department shared on social media that a multi-agency search and rescue operation was underway. According to reports from WBAL, two bodies have been recovered so far. U.S. Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas also confirmed that the aircraft was inbound from Kansas when the crash occurred. In response to the emergency, all takeoffs and landings at the airport were halted late Wednesday while personnel addressed the situation.
