Barely days after two separate fire tragedies rocked the city, killing 18 people, another massive fire was reported at the Cinevista film studio in Kanjurmarg late yesterday evening. No casualties were reported. According to sources from the fire department, the fire broke out on the TV serial set of the 3,000 square-feet studio, at around 8.07 pm. Sources said that the shooting of the new Colors TV serial, Bepannaah, starring Jennifer Winget, Harshad Chopda and Sehban Azim, was on, when the incident took place. "There were around 150 people, including actors and staff, on the set, when the fire broke out," a source said.

The source added that Winget was also at the set, when the incident took place, but was rescued, along with the rest. The firefighting officials are said to have reached the site by 8.25 pm. Six fire engines and four water tankers were pressed into service. All the staff and actors were evacuated from the studio, officials confirmed.

However, electric wiring, lights and other studio equipment were gutted in the blaze. The cause of the fire is yet to be known. But, a short circuit from the emergency generator on the set is said to have caused the incident. Vilas Jadhav, senior police inspector, Parksite police station said, "After we received the call, we reached the spot and found that all the people had been rescued.

There were no casualties at the spot. We are now waiting for the fire report and will take action accordingly." Suresh Gupta, a Congress party members and union leader of the workers said, "The set of Bepannaah has completely been destroyed in the fire. All the staff members are safe." Despite repeated attempts, Winget and producer of the show, Prem Malhotra, were unavailable for comment. Apart from Bepannaah, the studio also housed the sets of two other television serials.
