Four individuals have been apprehended for the vandalism of the Israeli flag in South Mumbai, as reported on October 18. A video of the incident emerged on social media, depicting a group of individuals defacing the flag at a junction in the Bhendi Bazaar area on Tuesday night, stated a PTI report.

In response to this incident, the JJ Marg Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and taken the four suspects into custody.

Furthermore, Mumbai's law enforcement agencies are actively monitoring social media platforms for any content that may be considered inflammatory or objectionable regarding the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in West Asia.

This heightened scrutiny comes in the aftermath of attacks that occurred between Israel and Hamas. The police have issued a stern warning that individuals who attempt to disrupt peace and harmony by posting offensive content on social media will face appropriate legal actions.

Israel-Palestine war

In 2023, the long-standing Israel-Palestine conflict saw a resurgence in violence. The conflict was characterized by a series of intense clashes, rocket attacks, and airstrikes between Israeli forces and Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip, notably Hamas. The conflict was triggered by escalating tensions in East Jerusalem, particularly concerning the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Israeli military conducted extensive airstrikes in Gaza, targeting alleged militant strongholds and infrastructure, while Palestinian militants fired barrages of rockets into Israel. The hostilities resulted in significant casualties, including civilian casualties on both sides. International organizations expressed deep concern over the humanitarian impact of the war.

In the latest attack, Israel launched an airstrike on a hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday killing hundreds of Palestinians. The health ministry in Gaza said that over 800 persons were killed in the air raid on Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in central Gaza. The Hamas group, governing the Palestinian territory, said the attack was a “war crime”. Reports stated that the area where air raid hit was "full of" displaced persons.

Egypt said it denounced the attack “in the strongest terms”, meanwhile, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau said it was unacceptable to hit a hospital.
