The 13-year-old boy from Meerut who sent a hoax bomb threat to an Air Canada flight is now being counselled. The teenager told the police he had wanted to test their efficiency, and so sent a fake bomb threat to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. He was influenced by media reports about the police apprehending someone for making a bomb threat about a Mumbai-bound flight.

“Delhi airport received a threat mail, in which the sender stated that a bomb had been planted inside the aircraft, and it could blow up at any time. A case was registered in the matter and we started an investigation,” said IGI Airport Deputy Commissioner of Police Usha Rangnani.

Sent for counselling

“After sending the threat mail to Delhi airport, he [the boy] deleted it from his device. The next morning, when he switched on the television, the media was reporting about his threat email,” IGI Airport Deputy Commissioner of Police, Usha Rangnani, said.

She added, “He got scared when the media started reporting his actions and that we had registered a case in the matter. Even his family members were not aware of this. Since the accused is a minor, he has been sent for counselling. The juvenile court ordered the police to hand him back to his parents. However, his phone has been seized.”
