In a move to facilitate the construction of a metro station as part of the Metro 6 project by Eagle Infra India LTD, the traffic route around Rambagh Bridge on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) will be temporarily closed, necessitating the diversion of traffic.

The order was issued by Dr. Raju Bhujbal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Eastern Suburbs, Traffic.

The traffic restrictions are scheduled to be enforced from January 24, 2024, to February 23, 2024, every night from 00:00 hrs to 06:00 am.

Details of road closures and alternate routes:

Route 1: The road from Ganesh Ghat to Rambagh Bridge descent on JVLR Road North Channel will be closed. Commuters are advised to use the alternate route from Ganesh Ghat via Rambagh Bridge South Channel. Traffic from Sadar Bridge on the south channel will be directed through the service road.

Route 2: The road from Powai Plaza to NTPC on JVLR Road South Channel will be closed. An alternative route will involve a reverse lane from Powai Plaza on JVLR Road North Channel, leading to NTPC Junction. JVLR Road will be rerouted through Dakshinvahini.

Meanwhile, Central Railway (CR) has decided that the Sion bridge, which was to remain closed from Saturday, will be kept open for traffic for a few more days. The move comes after local Member of Parliament Rahul Shewale requested authorities to take residents into confidence about the plan to demolish the 110-year-old structure.

Shewale, who represents the Mumbai South Central seat, said he would request Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to hold a meeting will all the officials concerned regarding the matter.

After getting the requisite permissions, CR decided to close the bridge, which connects Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road from Sion East to Dharavi and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg in Sion West, ahead of its planned demolition.

Shewale held a meeting with railway, civic and traffic police officials on Saturday at his office in Chembur. He asked officials before closing the road to vehicles to talk to residents and asked officials to keep the bridge open until he had a meeting with Shinde.
