Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Kalyan court denies bail in fatal Kasara train assault case

Thane: The Kalyan District and Sessions Court has rejected the bail application of Tanuj Jammuval, an accused in a fatal train assault that occurred in April. The case, which resulted in the death of a passenger, was significantly strengthened by video evidence recorded by an anonymous traveller.

The victim, Dattatray Bhoir, was travelling home on a Kasara local train after attending a friend`s daughter`s wedding, accompanied by his friend Pradeep Shirose. As they shared memories and joked about the wedding celebration, their laughter reportedly drew the attention of Jammuval and Amol Pardeshi, who were allegedly intoxicated at the time.

The Kalyan Government Railway Police initially arrested two suspects who were later granted bail. However, following the addition of murder charges, the authorities re-arrested them. Additional Sessions Judge RG Waghmare recently denied Jammuval`s bail application after reviewing the evidence.

Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Teacher jumps to death from Atal Setu; harassment by loan app agents suspected

A 50-year-old school teacher, who was allegedly being troubled over a loan, jumped to his death from the Atal Setu, the country’s longest sea bridge between south Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, an official said on Sunday. The man, a resident of Alibag in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, died by suicide near Ulwe, close to the Nhava Sheva end of the sea bridge, on Friday morning, the official said. His family told the police that he had borrowed money through an instant loan app last month to clear some debt and was struggling to pay an outstanding of Rs 12,000.

As he was unable to pay, recovery agents of the loan app company had been calling him over the past week and allegedly threatening to shame him, the official said.

The recovery agents subsequently allegedly circulated the primary school teacher’s morphed images among his contacts and in WhatsApp groups, his family told the police.
